[edit] Data Output

The output for the operation span is saved in two .csv files within the participant subfolder of the data\ folder. In this task, 'distractor' refers to the math task, not the memory task.

One, ospan-XXXX.csv, creates a trial-by-trial record of the memory performance.

subnum	cond	time	success
3233	2582.85	1000	2	EK	EK	1	1600.5	1	2	2	24	24
3233	2582.85	1000	2	OW	OW	1	1300.5	1	2	2	26	26
3233	2492.15	1000	6	VJAMZS	VJAMZS	1	1775	0.833333	5	6	32	31
3233	2492.15	1000	3	YJN	YJN	1	1519	1	3	3	35	34
3233	2492.15	1000	4	WZBI	WZIB	0	2035.25	1	4	4	39	38

There are just four headers on this file, which is incorrect. The columns indicate:

  • subject code
  • distractor-timeout
  • target-timeout
  • length
  • input letters
  • recalled letters
  • correctness (primary DV)
  • average time for distractor
  • distractor-task accuracy.
  • num correct for distractor
  • total number of distractor items
  • running total correct distractors
  • running total count of distractors

A detailed data file is also saved, with the name of 'ospan-pos-XXXX.csv.

It looks like this:

subnum	cond	time	success
3233	2582.85	1000	2	1	1	D	1	1393
3233	2582.85	1000	2	2	2	D	1	1808
3233	2582.85	1000	2	2	2	T	EK	EK
3233	2582.85	1000	2	1	1	D	1	1495
3233	2582.85	1000	2	2	2	D	1	1106
3233	2582.85	1000	2	2	2	T	OW	OW
3233	2492.15	1000	6	1	1	D	1	1098
3233	2492.15	1000	6	1	2	D	-1	2492
3233	2492.15	1000	6	2	3	D	1	2127
3233	2492.15	1000	6	3	4	D	1	1957
3233	2492.15	1000	6	4	5	D	1	1417
3233	2492.15	1000	6	5	6	D	1	1559
3233	2492.15	1000	6	5	6	T	VJAMZS	VJAMZS
3233	2492.15	1000	3	1	1	D	1	1770
3233	2492.15	1000	3	2	2	D	1	1239
3233	2492.15	1000	3	3	3	D	1	1548

This records the same first three columns as the summary data file, but includes performance on the operation tests. Each row marked 'D' in column 7 is a operation problem, T indicates the memory test. Columns are:

  • subnum
  • distractor (math) timout
  • memory timeout
  • length
  • Current position in response
  • Position in list
  • operation/Test marker
  • Response
  • Elapsed time
