[edit] About

An implementation of the "Eriksen Flanker Task", see Eriksen, C. W., & Schultz, D. W. (1979). Method modeled roughly after one described by: John F. Stins, Tinca J. C. Polderman, Dorret I. Boomsma and Eco J. C. de Geus (2007). However, it includes a 'neutral' as well as congruent/incongruent.

[edit] Notes

This task is located in battery/flanker/flanker.pbl

[edit] Options

Options available for flanker in the parameter settings are:

numreps|20|Number of repeats of 2x3 design
practicereps|2|Number of repetitions of desing in practice
includedashtrials|1|whether -->-- and --<-- trials should be included
includeemptytrials|1|whether [ > ] and [ < ] trials should be used
arrowsize|40|Pixel length of arrow (not head, entire arrow)
gap|2|pixel gap between arrows
fixationtime|500|Time prior to trial that fixation appears, in ms
timeout|800|Time allotted to make response, in ms
iti|1000|Inter-trial interval; time between response and new trial strarting, in ms

[edit] Data Output

Data are saved to several .csv and .txt files in the data folder:

  • data/flanker-"+gSubNum+".csv
  • data/flanker-pooled.csv
  • data/flanker-summary-"+ gSubNum+".txt
  • data/flanker-log.csv
  • data/flanker-all.csv

For the flanker task, the main data file looks like this:

subnum block trial practice targdir flankercoherence flankerdir time0 resp corr rt
   34 0 1 1 -1 -1 1 11751 [<timeout>] 0 800
   34 0 2 1 -1 0 0 13493 [<timeout>] 0 800
   34 0 3 1 -1 1 -1 15235 [<timeout>] 0 800
   34 0 4 1 1 0 0 16978 [<timeout>] 0 800
   34 0 5 1 -1 NA NA 18722 [<timeout>] 0 800

targdir indicates left(-1) and right (+1); coherence is whether it the flankers match the target direction (-1 is mismatch, +1 is match, 0 in neutral), and flankerdir is the flanker direction--same coding. time0 is the absolute time in ms of the trial, resp indicates the actual response ([<timeout>] is just a non-response; the time limit is 800 ms). corr is 1 or 0 if it is correct.
